    The Jamboree At Norton-Thoughts

Kelly- My alma mata: saw things I liked (Gilliam was a load that killed TS, the defense-4 picks against the Titans. TS had zero complete in the 2 qtrs). The intensity seemed to be up moreso for the Titans than TW. We seemed "Dockery scared" to start with against TS, doubling and focusing so much on him that McNew was hurting us on the ground. I was happy with the adjustments made. I saw things that I disliked. We had a wide open TD bomb dropped, as well as another pass, threw a pick, and fumbled once, stalled on the 2 (did get it done next trip) but overall I was pleased with the effort and results. We certainly are looking better.

Ervinton- There is ZERO reason if the Rebs keep healthy that my good friend Chris Crabtree's squad will vanquish past demons and guide the Rebs to the CD title and a spot on Saturday. Kiser is a dandy back-best in CD IMO.

Thomas Walker- looks like another 0-10

Norton-no one can match the speed, talent...etc Genetics-simple as that. Kicking game wasn't good, and they looked less than last year on run D (loss of Harris hurt no doubt)

Coeburn-Burrhead is a good back, but really didn't see much from them. TW had it at the Knight 8 and couldn't score.

Twin Springs-stop Dockery and you got em.

    Coeburn 14 TW 0
    JJK 19 TW 0
    JJK-14 TS 0
    Ervinton-8 Coeburn-6
    Norton-27 Ervinton-8
Norton was up 24-0 on TS when I left.
I was disappointed that at least a moment of silence wasn't observed tonight at Norton. 3 young folks are gone in just a few weeks. Something should have been done.

Final was 38-0 for the Norton/TS half. Dockery blocked 3 XP's.

Every school has their football families...like the Mabes, Hyltons, and Gibsons at Appalachia.

    Re: The Jamboree At Norton-Thoughts

Burton looked really good on offense, just like Indian dad said the Mile's Sensabuahsand Colemans never go away but I have to give credit to Coach Adams he knows how to use his players, year in year out Burton has freshman come in and get significant playing time and have great success.. it just seems like by the time these boys are freshman they are ready for Varsity.> Defensively they were pretty intense but missed some tackles. they looked pretty good overall..

Kelly was much improved from not only last year but from Last week.. last week they could not defend the pass and this week against TS they had what 3 ints so I am going to give credit to Coach Salyers for getting better and making adjustments. Kelly's running game once again was looking really good and their passing game was a lot better tonight

Ervinton, I really think that Ervinton has the best RB in the region, He has great vision and Power.. they also had some other quick backs, I think they kinda limited Kisers carries due to it being preseason, he will have 20-25 carries a game in the reg season, I would say the Rebs win the CD

Twin Springs- just like Indain Dad said you stop dockery you stop them. there Rb is ok, but they just seem young. I don't see TS doing too much this year

Coeburn- The knights have two pretty good backs with Bright and Nixon but other than that their Offense wasn't so good, their D missed too many tackles but all hope is not lost they can improve and I look for them too during the season.

Thomas Walker- good size had one back who ran hard but they have very little hope.

I noticed that Jimbo's brain trust had been slashed this year. I only counted 5 assistants as opposed to his normal 12. I remember one year thinking to myself that all Jimbo was missing was Hoover Mitchell and Sammy Sensabaugh beside him on the sidelines.

Norton will drop a lot in about 2 more years. The holdbacks will graduate. It should be an interesting two years for them though. Esp. if they stay healthy.
I'd say a big ceremony for the first home game for Ricky Harris. Great kid and athlete.

    Re: The Jamboree At Norton-Thoughts

Thomas Walker - Really didn't impress me much at all. They had a few good runs, but that was it. It's gonna be along season for them.

Coeburn - Didn't look bad, but didn't look good either. The other Rb besides Nixon was pretty good. But they had no blocking hardley. The defense was unimpressive missing several tackles.

Kelly - The wishbone they ran was looking pretty good. Sproles and #99 are two good backs. Thier passing game it aint all there, but I guess that was expected. Their defense didn't look to bad against the pass or the run. They still need some improvement, but they will surprise a team or two.

Ervinton - They are a scrappy bunch of kids. Adam Kiser and #23 where to great backs. They could be starters on any team around here. They defense is suspect in areas, but overall not bad. They should make some noise in the CD.

Twin Springs - Really didn't impress me at all. Dockery is a pretty good player and made for good catches. But little to no running game. Defensively they had hard stopping anyone. They made a few turnovers but really couldn't do anything with them. I think Dockery blocked 3 or 4 straight xps against Burton. Just crazy!

Burton - Speed, Speed, and more Speed. They just pick up where they left off from last year. I don't think the loss of Zo or Thacker is gonna hurt them. Jacob Coleman really impressed me tonight. I think had 4 tds. It should have been 5 or 6 but two of them he was called out of bounds. Josh Miles is a tank. There is no one Norton punt on a 4th and 1 or 2 or 3 with Miles back there. Their passing game isn't all there yet, but it should get better with each game. On defense Burton looked good. They just need to learn how to wrap up and make the tackle. They also need to stop talking after making tackles. There was several personal foul calls, that cost them some yards. Also Burton has alot this year and they were platooning which had me and Freddy impressed. Me and him counted about 20 more players out this year then they normally average. With the platooning going that will help keep them fresh longer. But other then that they looked good. I think Burton will give PV and GC a run for the money. They may not win but they wont blowin out either.

If we go back to last year when some were bashing B.I. and the Kelly program I pointed out that I thought B.I. was using the wrong style offense for his team. I'm pretty proud of myself for picking up on that.
